Pre-Puppy consults

The first few weeks with a new puppy can feel overwhelming, especially without a plan. A pre-puppy consult means you’re not figuring things out on the fly. Rather, you’ll walk in prepared, with a game plan tailored to your household, your routine, and your goals.

We’ll cover the essentials most new owners don’t think to ask about until it’s already a problem: how to structure a realistic potty schedule, what crate training actually looks like day one, sleeping through the night, how to set expectations for kids and existing pets, and simple habits that prevent common behavior issues before they start.

Maybe you’re just considering a first dog or you don’t know which breed of dog will best suit your family. I also offer consults on helping you decide what makes the most sense for your lifestyle. Don’t wait until it’s too late. Lets chat ahead of time.

Whether this is your first puppy or your fifth, a little planning ahead makes the transition smoother for everyone — puppy included.

COST: $200 for a 90 minute in person lesson (additional travel fees applicable for some areas)

FAQ’S

What is a pre-puppy consult? A pre-puppy consult is a session designed to help you prepare before your puppy even comes home. I help people decide which breed of puppy fits their lifestyle and walk through different breeds and temperaments. I also walk people through brining puppy home and what to expect - crate training, potty training, sleeping through the night, house manners, how to integrate a new puppy with other dogs or kids and much more.

Do I need a pre-puppy consult if I’ve already had a dog before? Not necessarily, but many experienced dog owners still find this valuable - especially if it’s been a while since owning a puppy. I also help people who have had issues with prior dogs and want to do things differently this time around!

Can we do a pre-puppy consult virtually? Absolutely! If it’s easier to do a virtual call we can arrange that. You’ll get the same guidance and planning without needing to schedule and in-person visit.

How soon before I bring my puppy home should I schedule this? Anytime in the weeks leading up to bringing your puppy home. I encourage a pre-puppy consult about 2-4 weeks before bringing puppy home but there’s never a bad time to book this!

What if I don’t know if I want a puppy but my family is thinking about getting one. Should I schedule a consult? Yes! I help many families decide if a puppy is a good choice for their family or not. I give a realistic breakdown of what to expect with a new puppy. I also look at individual families and lifestyles and help recommend breeds that would fit that nicely. If you aren’t sure, let me help guide you on the decision making process!
